Modernising a Period Home with Light, Space and Style

This project involved the transformation of a traditional period house into a modern, light-filled family home — blending heritage features with open-plan design, natural materials, and strong indoor-outdoor flow.

The brief was clear: introduce more natural light, open up the layout, and create a warm, contemporary space that remains true to the home’s original charm. A flexible annex was also required to support future family needs.

Design and Build Approach

To meet the client’s needs, we reimagined the rear of the property with a gable-end extension and full-width bi-fold doors, maximising natural light and creating a seamless connection to the garden.

Inside, we removed structural walls to open up the ground floor, forming a spacious living, dining, and kitchen area. Period details were carefully preserved and contrasted with modern finishes — creating a home that feels both timeless and functional.

A self-contained annex was constructed to the same high standard as the main house, offering a future-proofed solution for teenage independence, guest stays, or multi-generational living.
